CHALLENGE

Create a culturally rooted, immersive experience to celebrate the final season of Insecure while honoring the show’s legacy, fandom and South Central LA community.

EXECUTION

To celebrate the 5th and final season of Issa Rae’s Insecure, we partnered with the HBO Max to bring to life: Insecure Fest — an epic labor of love in the South Central LA community. The visual design was grounded in South Central LA, using a vibrant color palette and map-derived graphic shapes inspired by the surrounding neighborhood. Hosted by Crissle and Hey Fran Hey, with special appearances by Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji, the immersive experience invited guests to step into iconic scenes from seasons 1–5 and featured live performances by Duckwrth, Flo Milli, ScHoolboy Q, and Jazmine Sullivan. The celebration incorporated all Black-owned vendors, food and brands local to the South Central LA community.

LOVED BUT KILLED

R.I.P. to the concepts that didn’t make the cut.

DIRECTION 1

THE LANGUAGE OF INSECURE

As Insecure comes to a close, this direction draws from a defining thread across all five seasons: its sharp, deeply relatable writing & iconic taglines. Each season’s tagline is reimagined as a graphic element, creating a retrospective that feels expressive, celebratory & true to the spirit of the series.

DIRECTION 2

MANIFESTING, PERIOD.

This direction pulls from Issa’s dream-state visions of her future as a successful entrepreneur. Inspired by the Crenshaw storefront scene & its use of the paisley design. A design language that blends aspiration, confidence, and cultural pride, captured through an Issa-inspired lens.
